When I Was 16 I Injured My Back.
It Took Me Years To Learn The Hard Way How To Get Over It.
One day I was practising my kicks during a karate lesson when I felt a sudden sharp pain in my low back. Then the pain down my left leg started. Sciatica.
It was going to be with me for 6 months. Walking was difficult as I couldn’t stride out properly. At one point my mum had to help me put my trousers on, which for a 16-year-old boy was not my finest hour.
The doctor gave me painkillers but that didn’t really fix anything. And I didn’t know if I’d ever be out of pain. Eventually, I went to see a private physiotherapist, and then a chiropractor, who both help me a lot. So much so that I decided to train as a chiropractor, which has been my profession since 2004.
But it still took me several years of trial and error before I was pain-free. Because I had to learn what to do, and not to do, to let my back properly heal and strengthen.
